The Mistake of Free

Randy Murray:

Free is an intoxicating word. It captures the attention. It promises, it titillates, it teases. And ultimately, it disappoints.

While Murray make some great points, I disagree that free necessarily leads to failure. Certainly, businesses that create a free product and will figure out how to make money “later” are going to have an uphill battle, probably, but lots of services that don’t ask their users for money are still around and, in many cases, thriving.
